(My) Happiest Place on Earth
As I spent what would probably be my last summer in Texas, I wanted to find some way to capture the magic. So, when my family booked our annual trip to my grandpa’s on Sam Rayburn Reservoir, the largest lake in Texas located south of Broaddus, I brought my camera along. I went into the weekend with the goal of both having fun and documenting. This project was a huge success! Enjoy the following photo series and get a glimpse into my childhood. I hope these photos show how valuable this place is for me and my family.
Water Sports
It wouldn’t be a “Texas summer” without getting out on the wakeboard boat every day. Wake-surfing is my favorite water sport to do behind the boat! It’s equally as fun to relax inside and watch everyone else go.
My parents and their best friends have been doing wake sports since before they had children, and they’ve raised “us kids” to love it just as much. My godfather taught all of us (and lots of our friends) to wakeboard at a young age. Now, it’s something that has been bringing us closer together every year.
Sunset Cruises on the Pontoon
There were two boats we could always see docked in the lake. My godfather’s cherry-red wakeboard boat and a forest green and white Pontoon boat that’s probably older than me. For as long as I can remember, we’ve been cruising the lake on my grandpa’s pontoon boat. When we were younger, my brother and I spent hours on the lake with our grandpa. Although we can’t come as often now, we still take family sunset cruises (dogs included) nearly every evening. And my grandpa almost always drives because he’s the only one who has the “magic touch” to start the boat properly. It’s my favorite tradition.
This photo story aims to capture not only the place but the family that makes it so special. Simple things like cooking meals together, conversating at the kitchen table, and goofing off in the backyard are just as special.
I hope you enjoyed this “intermission” from my usual content as I had a blast taking these photos. I’m so happy with how they came out.
If you want to hire a vacation photographer, look no further! I’ll capture all the magic for you.
